You all know that the Send To context menu in Windows interface is a conveinient way to copy files quickly. Have you ever tried to copy a file into the Desktop using the Send To context menu? Probably you may answer Yes. But, Send To --> Desktop creates a shortcut rather than copying the file, as stated in the menu item itself. So how to copy the file rather than creating the shortcut? Here is how to do it.

  • Click Start --> Run
  • Type the following command and hit Enter.

shell:sendto

  • The Send To menu folder appears. This is the palce where you can edit the Send To menu.
  • Right click anywhere inside the folder except an icon and click New --> Shortcut.
  • Create a shortcut to Desktop and rename it to Desktop (file copy).

Here it is done. Now it is the time to test whether it is working.
Open any folder. Select any file/ folder. Right click, then Send To --> Desktop (file copy). Here you go!
