UCSCLodge now for outsiders too?
OfflineExcuse me for being blunt, but when this lodge was in development I thought it was for the use of UCSC students and graduates.... And it was for sometime. But lately I've seen some outsider activity here. Worst part is that admins have done absolutely nothing about them.. I'm incorrect there.. Admins have even encouraged them.
No offense for the outsiders, but you don't just barge in to a private club right? And when you see UCSCLodge (note the bold letters?) you should know that this is kinda private.
And then it comes to the admins.
- What are the possible reasons for keeping an outsider even after being informed?
- Have the policies changed? I received no mail about a change!!!
- I know this site receives low hits. But are we going international like the companies?
- And finally what is the meaning of encouraging outsiders?
Well for some of you guys I might sound like a socialist troublemaker(
) but I don't see why we should keep aside a portion of the union fund to maintain a public forum that does nothing(and I mean absolute nothing, nada, absolute zero, null... dig it?) to promote this site inside UCSC but keep encouraging outsiders to use it.

Definitely agree on Chamila's point with this one. Like he said, it's UCSCLodge right? UCSC!!! That itself says this is a kind of an internal community. I have nothing against outsiders either. But this doesn't seem like the place for other people to hang around.
I confess, I don't visit UCSCLodge that much. But I visited today after a long time. And I'm sorry to say I'm totally disappointed at the depths to which UCSCLodge have fallen. I clicked a few of the links in the home page displaying new activity. The topics seemed interesting enough, but strangely these topics seemed a little out of character for UCSC Students. And even for Sri Lankans. I googled a couple of headings of the posts of the posts in the forums and some of the blog posts. And I'm ashamed to say each of these articles are copied word for word from various sites on the internet.
Is this what UCSCLodge has come to? First started as (and still is according to the heading) a way to find an identity in cyberspace for UCSC students and graduates, a way to connect with other people of our community, share news and give or recieve help when it was needed or any other thing that you can think of. Today all it has are some stolen articles where the sources aren't even mentioned.
And the funny thing is I don't see the point of it either. What does this accomplish? This site earns no money. UCSCLodge doesn't have any ads and it doesn't support Google AdSense. I can guess one of the reasons behind it but I wouldn't want to throw around wild accusations without any proof.
Well as a closing note all I can say is admins should take a more active role in the lodge's activities and if they can't handle the workload share some of it with some trustworthy moderators. UCSC name should not be associated with this kind of plagiarism whether the forums are open to the outside or not!!!
As chamila and sabour86 said what has happened to the UCSCLodge. For the starters if this is open to the outsiders why do you ask for UCSC specific information when creating an account?? :-??

Im not sure what u meant by USCS...There is no need to remove that portion of the name since we havent got USCS part in the name itself...

It’s better if u all can discuss this problem outside of this public forum. Because when you all are insulting and exchange these kind of words with each other inside this forum it’s not good for our site's reputation. We are treating this as respectively as our official web site. Even our UCSC T-shirt got this address on it. Think about that. So better if you all can discuss this kind of disputes outside of this public forum of UCSC lodge and work things out collectively as responsible people. When outsiders see admins are trying to go against each other, what happens to the reputation. Why don’t you think about that brothers……….

What is the best place to discuss matters related with UCSCLodge except the UCSCLodge itself?
First of all my post was about the reputation of this site as it bears both our name and the emblem. This kind of discussion would not have appeared if the site was not open to outsiders at all.Now even you can understand thatno private matter can b e discussed here because every other sneaky person can see what is going on even without login in. And if he wants to join and make some trouble all he has to do is just sign up. As chatura pointed out even now there are articles copied without even mentioning references. I can't stress enough how vulnerable we have become using this site.
It was this topic that I discussed here. What the admin representative did was to talk about some personal issues. No defenses or rejections were done. As he talked about my mother I had to defend my self.
Why we can't talk these things outside in person? Becasue the admin who has replied here has not enough guts to talk about it in person or in front of a crowd. I've explained why. So no point in talking about that.
I think you have missed alot of this discussion, so please read from the top. For the record fuck and shit are not always slang and their meaning can depend on the context.

I only gathered you all to build this site and make it up and running. I think I am the proper person to reply this and ask you to stop this 'montisory' work.
My intention was, when starting this, make ucsclodge as popular as dot net forum. Make a thougt in outsiders, ucsclodge is a great information source.
I wonder about you current thoughts and behaviour chamila, you only the person who went to buy the domain name for ucsclodge. why we wanted that if we want make this available only to the insiders? why we spent money for publishing things? Other wise we could have run this thing in a internal server in the intranet no??
Please stop this bull shit discussions, It is better to close this site rather than having this kind of madness.
I am not expecting any further comments or discussions. This realy discourages me even involving in this kind of work anymore.

The day I started this post was 5th May. And all of the people waited till Shaakunthala made this personal on 11th June to answer. And now they all have something to blame.Not being "polite". To my knowledge politness is a cover for the people to hide their true nature.
Yeah this is bullshit. Because I talked about the forum, and all I get is this talk about what my mom tought me and what my thoughts and behaviour are. I'll leave it up to the reader to decide who got this issue personal.
Putting the site in an internal server would not allow a graduate to access it, would it?
Anyways I also have no intentions of getting back on this subject or getting back to the Lodge for that matter.

In our first year, Mr.Dilunika ask some ppl from our batch 2 involving for creating this site.. chamila and other ppl coordinate by once of our batch mate. So when they developing this they were want to put mechanism of check internal students.
In the early age of this development they only talked about the internal students, now they say this is open 2 all. I hav 2 ask some problem from Mr. .Dilunika ..
"why we spent money for publishing things?" -- UCSC ppl only pay for this domain only and the MAYA Creations doing hosting part FREE OF CHARGE. but yesterday i got the msg dat they are going to charge some money. Its said by one of our responsible person, but i clearly know that MAYA didn't want to do so.
Not only that we heard some notice regarding policies that govern on this site, bt we never saw them.
Ur idea to open to all is really cool and its really brilliant, but the admin need to have proper management on it. coz once some outsider publish some vulnerable thing on this it will directly affect to UCSC image. According to the law u have to create better disclaimer on this. once u did that its really ok to open this to all.
We all have T-Shirt with nice text "ucsclodge.lk" . normally all of outsiders know that its a official web for ucsc ppl. so once u give the permission to outsiders they can do what ever they want. so why we want to get problem from outsiders. i think chamila talking about this matter.
