Trying Something Different
For more than two years I was using the AVG antivirus free edition.
But now I feel a bit uncomfortable with the AVG. I have found two problems with AVG (may be we can refer them as bugs)
- The system tray shows up an icon which indicates that there are ongoing scans, but actually there are no ongoing scans.
- At some point, when I update it, it requests a system restart. And then I restart the system and update again some time later. Then it will not download any updates but again requests system restart. This continues to happen.
Additionally, it makes the system startup a bit slower.
So I thought why not try an alternate.
So, what I found is the avast! antivirus (www.avast.com) free edition. It is free for private use.
It has a very low resource demanding when compared with the AVG, but unfortunately scheduled scans are not available in the free edition. Also, even if you are a free user, it requires a registration.
Anyway, I'm tryin' it.
You can download it and a whole lot more from here. Also, visit here to download skins.
