Create your own Windows XP CD-ROM
Were you ever thinking of making your own customized Windows XP CD? Have you ever wondered if there is a way?
OK. Here is it. It is called nLite. Not only for Windows XP but also for Windows 2000 and 2003 it works. And it is freeware.
It allows you to customize your Windows XP install CD by adding/ removing installer components, including device drivers with your Windows installation, automating Windows installation and specifying default Windows settings too.
For example (of Windows Setup) you can hide the EULA, make it automatically fill the product key field, skip displaying the timezone setup dialog and so on. And also it allows you to remove Windows components such as Windows Media Player and Microsoft Internet Explorer that Windows normally does not allow removal. Removing unwanted Windows components actually speeds up Windows in some machines.
So, why don't you try it? All you need are nLite, Windows XP CD-ROM, a blank CD-ROM, CD burning software (such as Nero) and a CD writer. Here is the process.
1. First, install nLite on your computer. Then insert your Windows XP CD.
2. Launch nLite and locate your CD-ROM drive which you inserted your Windows CD to.
3. It will automatically copy the CD's content to your hard drive.
4. Then proceed step by step carefully and you will find a number of customization options.
5. Finally create a CD image file (.iso) as the output.
6. Burn it onto a CD-R.
And then, whenever you want to install Windows XP on a machine, use that CD. You save a lot of time because you have a little bit of after-install work to do because you have already done these when creating the custom CD.
Download nLite (2.54 MB)
If you want to customize your copy of Windows Vista, you may use vLite instead of nLite.
